Smart Vision Lights Launches NanoDrive™ Technology at Automate 2019 to Support High-Speed Image Capture and Shorter Exposure Times

Muskegon, Mich., April 8, 2019 — Smart Vision Lights (SVL), a global leader in the design and manufacture of LED illumination solutions for machine vision and other applications, released its award-winning NanoDrive™ technology, an industry-first LED light driver at the Automate 2019 conference and exhibition (Booth 8135). The only commercially available light driver capable of supplying full current to LEDs in 500 nanoseconds or less while providing hundreds of amps, SVL’s NanoDrive™ significantly eases the integration of machine vision solutions and expands options for applications that require rapid image acquisition or short image exposure times. Area scan and line scan cameras will also benefit from lighting powered by the technology.

NanoDrive™Traditional LED lights take anywhere from two to tens of microseconds to fully power on. While suitable for conventional imaging applications, these time frames are becoming problematic as the inspection industry adopts higher-speed cameras.

“A winner of the 2019 Prism Award from SPIE and Photonics Media, the NanoDrive™ driver is emblematic of SVL’s proactive approach to anticipating the needs of demanding industry applications by collaborating closely with industry leaders to develop innovative solutions,” says David Spaulding, President of Smart Vision Lights. “Innovated in large part by Ed Brandel, one of SVL’s lead designers, NanoDrive™ is the first commercial light driver to enable full power within nanoseconds and deliver the ultrafast strobe speeds necessary for high-speed cameras to freeze an image with little or no pixel blur.”

NanoDrive™ technology also substantially reduces image acquisition times, which helps minimize reliance on ambient lighting. The very short “on” time is comparable to the light’s “off” time, allowing for an increase in the amount of strobes the light can produce per second. When an SVL light featuring NanoDrive™ is configured to a 1 microsecond pulse width and a 10 percent duty cycle, the light is capable of 100,000 strobes per second.

SVL experts will be on hand to discuss NanoDrive™ technology and related products at Booth 8135 during Automate 2019, which runs from April 8-11 at Chicago’s McCormick Place.
