Norton Shores, Mich., May 22, 2023 — Smart Vision Lights, a leading designer and manufacturer of high-brightness LED lights for industrial applications, announces the launch of its innovative, patent-pending new technology, Hidden Strobe. Engineered to optimize machine vision systems operating at high speeds, Hidden Strobe is a solution to the prevalent issue of distracting and disorienting LED strobe lights.
“As machine vision systems operate at increasingly high speeds, it is critical that the lighting employed in these systems is capable of capturing the right images without causing unintended environmental hazards,” says Dave Spaulding, President and CEO of Smart Vision Lights. “Hidden Strobe is our answer to this challenge.”
Traditionally, LED lights are strobed, or pulsed, to freeze images of fast-moving objects in various applications. This technology can used in virtually any industrial application, including logistics, consumer goods, pharmaceutical, automotive, and more. This strobing, while beneficial for image capture, can create an unpleasant environment for nearby personnel due to the disorienting flashing lights. With the growth of smart warehousing, the widespread use of strobing LED lights in open areas has escalated, amplifying the problem.
Hidden Strobe, however, minimizes the negative impacts of strobing LEDs, allowing manufacturers to maximize the use of their machine vision systems without compromising the wellbeing of their employees. Hidden Strobe allows the LEDs to internally self-trigger thousands of times per second, creating a nearly continuous light source.
“The Hidden Strobe feature creates an illusion of continuous light by self-triggering pulses faster than the human eye can perceive,” explains Matt Pinter, Chief Technology Officer at Smart Vision Lights. “This technology enables us to take advantage of the powerful overdrive modes of LEDs while ensuring a safer and more comfortable environment for workers.”
When the light is triggered in sync with the camera to capture an image, the Hidden Strobe pulses stop and the programming pulse for the camera is executed. After image capture, the light returns to continuously generated Hidden Strobe pulses to deliver a “continuously on” appearance to anyone nearby. This groundbreaking technology allows for unparalleled performance without the associated drawbacks of traditional strobing lights.
“Hidden Strobe represents a significant step forward in machine vision technology,” says Spaulding. “By reducing the physical impacts on personnel, we’re able to maximize the effectiveness of our machine vision lights without any need for light shielding. This is a win for both efficiency and employee comfort.”
